Parenting Assessment and Parent Coaching

What is included? in the complete package

    The Marschak Interaction Method (MIM) is completed with either or both parents, as appropriate. The MIM is a play-based observation of the parent and child engaging in semi-structured activities and from this assessment significant aspects of the parent-child relationship are made apparent to the observers. The MIM assesses the child’s ability to respond to the parent’s effort within the four dimensions: structure, nurture, challenge, and engagement.

    The MIM provides the opportunity for observing the strengths of both the adult and the child and their relationship. From this assessment a list of strengths, and weaknesses, will guide treatment through parent coaching to promote or enhance the parent-child attachment. The MIM will be used to strengthen familial relationships and to design interventions to meet those needs.

    There is evidence of prenatal, early childhood, adolescent, family, and forensic use of the MIM.  The assessment can take up to about 4 hours for completion.

    *Videotaping of assessment is required for intense review and to get the most accurate accounting of parent-child interactions

    A Diagnostic Assessment using evidenced based play therapy. This assessment uses either “Child Centered Play Therapy” (office only) and/or “Filial Therapy” (home), depending on age of children. The assessment ranges from 3-8 sessions.
     
    Day Care/School Observations for up to four hours may be used as an assessment tool.

    Parent Assessments for each/both individual parents may be completed and this may include a parent alienation scale, other screenings and the follow up reports. Individual counseling may be offered at additional cost, pending outcomes of screenings/assessment.

    Other “Extended Play Assessments” as age appropriate.

    After the assessment and follow up visits to review the assessment, a minimum of 5 hours in home coaching is a part of the package. Coaching will be offered in individual packages at 5-hour segments, in addition to initial 5 hours.
